One of the manga that I’m currently following is Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu by Minami Kanan. I’ve been following this manga since last year, I never thought it will be good since it’s Minami Kanan’s work, most people know her works mainly involve smut and explicit ones too, but surprisingly this one is not smutty and have a good story line. I think the latest chapter in mangafox is chapter 41, this manga is still on-going.
Basically the story it’s your typical shoujo story. Involving a nerdy girl; Hibino Tsubaki and a handsome popular guy; Tsubaki Kyouta. They have the same name and enters the same class too, what a big coincidence. Anyway, the nerdy Hibino eventually falls in love with the playboy Kyouta. I think Kyouta knows about Hibino’s feeling for him, so he kinda plays with her heart by flirting with her alot. But he completely rejects Hibino after her confession because of his past trauma with women.
But Hibino doesn’t give up, she keep doing her best to win Kyouta’s heart and eventually he accepts Hibino and they become an item. Later chapters show how they deal with their relationship and all that. Kyouta is no longer a playboy and becomes a devoted boyfriend, while Hibino has gone downhill by becoming wishy-washy and insecure about her relationship with Kyouta.
The development is typical but I like how the author makes the storyline as realistic as possible. The lover’s problems, Hibino’s insecurities, Kyouta’s transition from bad boy to devoted boyfriends, etc. And the art is superb as well, Hibino is beautiful, I especially like how her hair is drawn. Kyouta is definitely gorgeous and handsome, Hibino is one lucky girl!
The story is revolving around these two beautiful characters:
Hibino Tsubaki is your typical heroine, she’s a nerdy girl with good heart. She is brave enough to cut Kyouta’s hair at their first meeting despite her timid appearance. She also one persistent girl when it comes to win Kyouta’s heart. She often feel insecure after she become Kyouta’s girlfriend, people are complaining about her being insecure, whiny, and wishy-washy. But I think it’s a normal development for any girl in relationship. I mean any normal girl will feel insecure about their relationship, let alone timid girl like Hibino, and let’s remember she has this super handsome guy as her boyfriend, so the insecurity will be doubled.
At first Tsubaki Kyouta is a bad boy who plays with girls’ hearts, Hibino is one them. He initially rejects Hibino because of his past trauma with women. But eventually he gives in to Hibino and said he wants to trust Hibino. As the plot develops, Kyouta become more and more devoted to Hibino, he’s leaving his playboy habit completely and there is no doubt that he really loves Hibino. He is really sweet and protective towards Hibino and he is definitely one of the main reason why I’m reading this manga.
Manga scores: 4 out of 5
Recommended: Very recommended. The relationship between Hibino and Kyouta is the main appeal of this series along with the beautiful artworks. I’m hoping there will be more scanlations available soon.
